Where to eat Keto in Edinburgh: what to eat, recommended places, supermarkets, shops with keto and low-carb options.

I spent 3 days in Edinburgh, and even if I was on a keto break, I found interesting options to eat keto in this beautiful city.

I noticed that eating in the restaurants is not particularly easy, because fried food is everywhere, but there are many chains that offer keto options.

Keto Breakfast in Edinburgh

My suggestion is always booking an accommodation with breakfast included.
All the hotels serve an international breakfasts, and you can easily fill your plate with eggs, cheese, and all the keto options you need.

If you rent your own accommodation, is also very convenient buying your keto food in any supermarket and prepare your own breakfast.

If you could not manage to have a breakfast included in your accommodation, just search in Google for an International or English breakfast near your location for a diner. The typical English breakfast is basically keto (just leave the beans and the toast).

A few places for breakfast:

  • Tom Carvery all you can eat breakfast, mix and match sausages, eggs, bacon.
  • Bar + Block unlimited breakfast, you can match eggs, sausages, bacon.
  • Duck and Waffle few interesting keto options and Scottish breakfast.

Keto Lunch and Dinner in Edinburgh

Although fish and chips are difficult to dodge, you will always find something you can eat.
Focus on restaurants serving meat and fish dishes.
Also, don’t forget that in UK, is very common the Sunday Roast.

Here are a few options for a keto lunch or dinner in Edinburgh:

Tom Carvery if you love meat, enjoy their selection of carvery. Don’t miss the roasted meats, to pair with steamed & roasted vegetables. Opened also for breakfast. They also serve the Sunday Roast.

FIVE GUYS, famous for their bun-less burger, wrapped in lettuce. Read here my full review.

Burger King and McDonald’s: as in any fast food, toss the bun, avoid the sugary sauces, drink sugar-free beverages.

Subway, you can create your own salad, without bread. Read here the keto options at Subway.

Fresh Mex, has low-carb options, be sure to avoid sauces as they can contain sugar. You can have a salad, pulled pork, grilled chicken.

Behive INN, almost everything is fried or comes with bread, but they serve keto-friendly House Salad with Chicken or with Halloumi.

Bar + Block. You can mix and match your menu, choosing between several meat cuts, sauces, and veggies. This is also a good place for the Sunday Roast, and you can choose between Roast Beef Sirloin, Roast Chicken, or Roast Lamb Rump. Opened also for breakfast.

The Black Rose Tavern, not much choice here, but I tried their Chicken Salsa Meat and I loved it (ask it without fries).

Supermarkets with keto foods in Edinburgh

Every supermarket hasketo foods. Nuts, keto bars, sugar-free drinks, lunch platters with cheese and salami, chicken,… The most popular supermarket chains in Edinburgh are:

  • Tesco
  • Marks and Spencer
  • Lidl
  • Sainsbury
  • Coop

Stores with keto snacks in Edinburgh

  • Holland and Barrett
  • Superdrug
  • Boots
  • Poundland

Coffee with keto options in Edinburgh

In any coffee store you can find black coffe, but these chains are the most popular:

  • Starbucks
  • Coffee costa
  • Pret a manger
  • Nero coffee

Starbucks also sell eggs and white eggs bites.
In Pret a Manger you will find keto friendly salads.

Is haggis keto?

Haggis, the national dish of Scotland, is not keto. The recipe is made with with minced liver, heart, and lungs of a sheep (or other animal), mixed with oatmeal – which is not keto.

Whisky

Whisky, being a pure spirit, is suitable for the keto diet. A typical experience to do in Edinburgh is a Whisky tasting experience. I recommend to do it even if you don’t like whiskey. I don’t, and I enjoyed the experience! moreover, I know how to taste a whiskey glass like a pro.

I booked a tour with Scotch Whiskey The Experience (50 minutes) and I loved it.
