Is it possible to eat keto at McDonald’s?
Besides fries and buns, is possible to eat keto at McDonald’s. You can have a few keto choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
You can order every beef burger on the menu and keep aside the bun. Skip the sauces, the fries, the milkshakes, and the ice cream, and you will have a tasty, low-carb meal.
Keto and low-carb choices at McDonald’s in The Netherlands
Mcdonald’s is an international chain, but the menu can differ from country to country. Here I will focus on the keto options at Burger King in the Netherlands.

How to order keto and low-carb at McDonald’s in the Netherlands
Here are a few points to order while you place an order at McDonald’s.
- Do not order a menu, because it comes with fries.
- Order only beef burgers, because the chicken/fish burgers are crispy and high in carbs.
- If you can, stay away from the sauces. Not always is possible to skip the ketchup or mayo, but special sauces, such as BBQ, are easy to remove from the totem.
- If you can, leave out the bun while ordering, also at the totem. Sometimes the cheese sticks to the bun and it’s hard to scrub out the cheese from the bread.
- If it is not possible to skip the sauces, try wiping the burger with a tissue if you wish.
- Order only sugar-free drinks or water.
Keto Breakfast options at McDonald’s
For breakfast, I recommend a bun-less Mc Muffin. They are available only during breakfast time.
Make your option bun-less by removing the bread at the table or selecting the ‘no bread’ option at the totem or the counter. Pair it with a beverage from McCafé (see next chapter).
They are available in a few options:
- Egg McMuffin A freshly prepared egg on a toasted muffin bun. With cheddar melted cheese on top!
- McMuffin Beef & Egg A freshly baked egg on a toasted muffin roll with a burger made from 100% juicy beef, fresh onions and a slice of delicious cheddar cheese.
- McMuffin BLT & Egg Fried egg with bacon and a slice of cheddar cheese. Finished with juicy tomato and fresh lettuce.
- McMuffin Bacon & Egg A freshly prepared egg on a toasted muffin bun. With cheddar cheese and bacon.
- McMuffin Double Egg & Bacon 2 freshly prepared eggs on a warm toasted muffin bun. With cheddar cheese and bacon (my favorite!).
Keto options at McCafé
McCafé is the section in McDonald’s where they serve warm drinks, such as coffee and tea.
It is always available, not only for breakfast. The keto and low-carb options are:
- Koffie
- Espresso
- Double espresso
- Tea
- Mint tea
Notice: Soya milk is available at McDonald’s, but it contains apple extract and maltodextrin.
Keto Burgers Options At McDonald’s
Focus on the beef burgers, avoid all the crispy options, and the sugary sauces.
Do not order a full menu (comes with fries!), but a single burger.
Make your option bun-less by removing the bread at the table or selecting the ‘no bread’ option at the totem or the counter.
Here below I’ve included the most popular options in every McDonald’s. Some options are also double, they comes with double meat.
- Hamburger 100% pure beef patty seasoned with just a pinch of salt and pepper, topped with a tangy pickle, chopped onions, ketchup, and mustard.
- Cheeseburger 100% pure beef burger patty seasoned with just a pinch of salt and pepper, topped with a tangy pickle, chopped onions, and a slice of melty American cheese.
- Double Cheeseburger Two 100% pure beef patties seasoned with just a pinch of salt and pepper. It’s topped with tangy pickles, chopped onions, ketchup, mustard, and two melty American cheese slices.
- Big Mac Two 100% pure beef patties, topped off with pickles, crisp shredded lettuce, finely chopped onion, and a slice of American cheese.
- Quarter Pounder 100% fresh beef seasoned with just a pinch of salt and pepper, sizzled on a flat iron grill, then topped with slivered onions, tangy pickles, and two slices of melty American cheese.
- Big Tasty A 100% beef burger with crunchy bacon, Emmental cheese, juicy tomato, fresh onions and fresh lettuce.
Other low-carb options at Mcdonald’s in the Netherlands
The options below may not be totally keto, but they for sure are low-carb.
Grilled Chicken Salad – Sweet &Spicy Salad with grilled, marinated chicken, with tomatoes and paprika-flavored crunch. It contains a few pieces of red apple and corn. The curry-apple dressing is aside and you can choose to not mix it to the salad. Excluding the dressing, this salad contains 12 grams of carbs per salad.
Side Salad This side salad contains corn, beet, and carrots.
Are the chicken Nuggets in McDonald’s keto?
Since the chicken Nuggets in McDonald’s contain sugar and flour, they are not keto-friendly.
Are the chicken Tenders in McDonald’s keto?
Same as for the chicken Nuggets, Chicken Tenders in McDonald’s contain sugar and flour, and they are not keto-friendly.
