My high-protein radar picked up something interesting in the beer department!
This time, I stumbled upon the Thrive Protein Beer. Thrive is a brand focused on alcohol-free beers with added benefits, and they offer a few different options on their website. Very, very intriguing!
Description and Flavour
Thrive Protein Beer is a alcohol-free brew that contains whey protein. It’s brewed in Belgium in collaboration with the University of Leuven, which definitely adds some credibility to their formula.
When it comes to taste, I found the smell and the aftertaste to be a little fruity. The flavour itself reminds me of an IPA, but without the usual bitterness.

Thrive Protein Beer: Yay or Nay?
I’m not a huge fan of IPAs—I prefer blond beers with a cleaner profile.
My husband, on the other hand, is an IPA lover, and even he wasn’t impressed by Thrive. He thought the taste was alright if you’re specifically looking for a light, protein-packed IPA, but he missed the strong, bold character he usually enjoys in a real IPA.
Would I buy it again? Big NOPE!
While I appreciate the idea behind it (seriously, 10g of protein in a beer is pretty wild), it just doesn’t hit the spot for me.
My all-time favorite “almost guilt-free” beer remains Javer—a brand I’ve been happily drinking for over two years now. Read the review of Jever Beer HERE.
