While shopping for my weekly groceries, my high-protein radar spotted a new find: Kellogg’s Special K High Protein in Cocoa Hazelnut flavor.
Taste & Texture
I don’t eat cereal regularly, so I’m not sure how common cocoa & hazelnut-flavored cereals are.
That said, I was pleasantly surprised by the taste. The cocoa-hazelnut combo is delicious, and the texture is great—crispy and stays crunchy in milk without getting too soggy.

Nutritional Values
Here is the nutritional value for 100g:
- 381 kcal
- 64g carbs
- 3.1g fat
- 21g protein
Yay or Nay?
I love the flavor and texture, but let’s break down the nutritional difference.
In the left photo, you’ll see the values for Special K High Protein, and in the right, the Special K Original.

For a 25g portion, the calories are nearly identical, with slightly more protein in the High Protein version. However, it also has slightly fewer carbs and a bit more fat.
The difference is quite subtle, so despite the bold claims on the box, I don’t find this product all that groundbreaking. It can be a convenient way to add some extra protein, but it’s not a game-changer.
I enjoy cereal every now and then, but this High Protein version doesn’t feel all that “worth it” for me—aside from the hazelnut flavor, which I did enjoy.
So, will I buy it again? Well, I still need to finish this box, and something tells me it’ll take a while. Maybe.
Have you tried the Kellogg’s Special K High Protein?
