Date

Egg fast it’s easy but not so easy. That’s why I wrote a guide. Oh, and because you are not a real keto-writer until you don’t publish an egg-fast guide. So, guide it is!

If you want to know more, read my experience. You can find how I was feeling, my tricks and how much weight I have lost.

What’s an egg fast

SPOILER ALERT. Don’t look the photo if you don’t want to know what an egg fast is.

An egg fast is a restrictive, short-term diet plan. It was developed by Jimmy Moore in 2010 to fight against a weight loss plateau. Enchantรฉ. The egg fast promotes the ketosis and the satiety. Why ketosis: you will reach ketosis sooner because this plan is totally 0 carb. Why satiety: eggs are very filling.

The diet consists of 3 to a maximum of 5 days eating mostly eggs, as the name suggests. An egg fast has rules. Online you can find different plans and people are giving personal modifications to it.

Rules

Eat a minimum of 6 eggs per day

Eat one tablespoon of healthy fat (butter, mayonnaise, coconut oil, etc.) per egg.

Enjoy up to 3 ounces (85 grams) of cheese per day.

Within 30 minutes of waking up, eat your first egg.

Eat an egg every 3 to 4 hours.

Stop eating at least 3 hours before bedtime.

Add salt whenever you can (electrolytes are important!).

Condiments and spices are OK to add (hot sauce, pepper, paprika, etc.).

Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water daily.

You can drink tea and coffee (as in the normal Keto diet).

You can drink Diet Soda, but a maximum of 3 cans a day.

Egg fast for a minimum of 3 days, and a maximum of 5 days.

I have also read somewhere that after an egg fast is necessary a sort of deescalation: go back to normal keto but at least 1 meal per day with only eggs and fats. This in order to not gain back what lost.
But I did some research and this method is not really popular.

Is not recommended to follow this plan for more than 5 days because is very restrictive.

An egg fast is unsuitable for people with type 1 or type 2 diabetes and if you have other conditions speak with your doctor first.

Side effects

Being so restrictive, this plan comes with some side effects:

Weakness

Low energy

Difficulty to concentrate

Headaches

The same side effects most of us had during the first period of a Keto diet.
You can take your supplements as you would do normally.

Benefits

Despite from person to person this may vary, this short plan can bring many benefits:

Increased fat loss

Higher ketone levels

Reduction of cravings

How to plan an Egg Fast

Yep you need planning to organise your days of fasting!

Buy eggs enough for 3-5 days. On average you will eat 8-10 eggs per day.
Use this calculation before you go shopping for eggs.

Boil some eggs. Is always wise to have some ready boiled eggs in the fridge for the moments you want to eat right now. Boiled eggs are also a practical snack-to-go.

Think in advance about your menu. This saves time and saves you from the temptation to eat something else. If necessary write it on paper or on your phone.

Choose the right week. Schedule your egg fast during one week in which you don’t have any social appointments, business trips, dinner with friends, or important deadlines. An egg trust is very restrictive and you’ll have a hard time in social events. Also, eating only eggs increases cravings and social meetings can endanger your motivation. This plan can also give you hard time focusing and concentrate, so plan it in the days in which you have no important errands to run.

During an Egg Fast

Some may think that eating only eggs for 3 or 5 days is easy.

If you are trying for the first time, proceed slowly: the moment you don’t feel to go on anymore, just stop. Egg Fasting is not for everybody.

Listen to your body. How do you feel? Can you keep going?

If you are weak don’t exercise. Opt for a walk instead.

How is your focus? Can you concentrate enough?

If you want to try the egg fast: Challenge yourself but know your limits.
