In this post, I will share tasty, healthier Kruidnoten alternatives.
It’s officially Kruidnoten season in the Netherlands! These little spiced cookies are a festive favorite — crunchy, addictive, and available in every flavor you can imagine.
But let’s be honest… they’re not always the best choice if you’re focusing on your fitness or health goals.
Of course, I have my yearly dose of kruidnoten, but since they’re highly addictive and I can realistically finish a whole bag in one sitting, I looked for healthier alternatives.
Kruidnoten are delicious, but:
- They’re packed with sugar and refined carbs.
- They can spike your blood sugar, leaving you tired or craving more.
- They’re so easy to overeat (who ever stops at just a handful?).
Smarter Swaps = Better Energy & Macros
By choosing alternatives that are higher in protein, fiber, and healthy fats, you’ll:
- Feel more satisfied.
- Keep your energy stable.
- Support your fitness goals without missing out on the festive vibe.
In this post, I’ll share tasty, round-shaped alternatives you can “trick your mind” with — snacks that still give that Kruidnoten feeling, but nourish your body at the same time. 💪✨
XXL Protein Choco Balls

Protein Choco Balls XXL Available in Milk Chocolate or White Chocolate, these protein-packed balls come in a convenient 38g bag — perfect for on-the-go snacking while keeping your protein up.
I think these are the closest realistic alternative to kruidnoten.
Funky Fat Foods Nuts and Berries

Funky Fat Foods nuts and berries All Funky Fat Foods snacks are enriched with MCT oil, high in good fats, clean, and free from added sugar. They’ve just launched 3 new treats that are perfect kruidnoten lookalikes:
- Dark Chocolate Goji Berries – antioxidant-rich and crunchy.
- White Chocolate Almonds – creamy chocolate coating over roasted almonds.
- Milk Chocolate Hazelnuts – smooth vegan milk chocolate wrapped around a crunchy hazelnut.
👉 Bonus: All three are keto-friendly!

Prozis Protein Energy Balls

Protein Energy Balls Prozis Available in flavors like Peanut Butter and Chocolate, these little energy bombs are higher in protein and make a great kruidnoten alternative.
Between all the options, this one is definitely the least kruidnoten-like in both taste and texture — it’s sticky, soft, and chewy, but still a good alternative to kruidnoten.

Bake your own KRUIDNOTEN
If you don’t mind baking, this option is the most fun! Kruidnoten are basically mini spiced cookies, so it’s super easy to make a lighter, sugar-free version at home.
I’ve made this recipe many times and shared it with you HERE.
The taste is the same — just without the sugar and unnecessary ingredients.
Conclusion
Enjoying the season doesn’t mean giving up your goals. You can (and should!) enjoy real kruidnoten, but the tricky part is moderation — they’re just too easy to overeat.
Try these healthier swaps, experiment in the kitchen, and keep the festive spirit alive while staying on track with your fitness. 💪✨
