The keto variant recipe of the kapsalon is very easy and quite fast to prepare. But first, what’s a Kapsalon?
Here’s the funny story of the Kapsalon. From Wikipedia:
Kapsalon ([ˈkɑpsɐlɔn]) is a fast food dish created in 2003 in the Dutch city of Rotterdam, consisting of a layer of french fries placed into a disposable metal takeaway tray, topped with döner or shawarma meat, covered with slices of Gouda cheese, and heated in an oven until the cheese melts. Then a layer of shredded iceberg lettuce is added, dressed with garlic sauce and sambal, a hot sauce from the former Dutch colony of Indonesia.[1] The term kapsalon is Dutch for “hairdressing salon“, alluding to one of the inventors of the dish who worked as a hairdresser.[2] The dish is a product of Dutch multiculturalism, combining elements of dishes from multiple cultures. The dish has spread internationally in a relatively short time.[1]

Kapsalon keto recipe: the Ingredients
The ingredients are not too many, and you can swap them for any other products.

Rutabaga
The mean ingredient of this meal is the Rutabaga (in Dutch Koolraap). You can find it in many supermaket under several shapes. What is needed for this recipe, is the fries shape. The look is very similar to real fries. But it contains only 2 net carbs for 100 grams.
Don’t be fooled: the taste (and smell) is more like a cauliflower. But after you will fry, is it very tasty.
If you cannot find Rutabaga, replace it with any other product you fancy. The important thing is the mix!
Some ideas:
zucchini
aubergine
pumpkin
extra meat
extra cheese
bacon
Meat
Choose the meat you like: any meat is fine. It’s important, after the cooking, to cut the meat in pieces, to make easier the consumption.
Idea: why don’t you try a fish variant? Easily switch the meat for your favorite food!
Cheese slice
Any cheese slice is legit. Make sure is a cheese easy to melt.
Salad
Add the salad you like. Any lettuce is fine. You can also add cucumbers and tomatoes.
Garlic sauce
I prepared my own garlic sauce, combining in the mixer some garlic gloves, oil and cream cheese.
If you don’t like garlic sauce, you can use 0 carb mayo, or just olive oil.
Good to know: the kapsalon is commonly eaten in aluminium food box. You can serve them in any other bowl.
